In 2014, the CEO of GoPro, Nicholas Woodman was facing a massive tax bill in the tens of millions because his company just went public, so when his company’s stock reached its peak, he donated around 500 million dollars worth of his company to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a DAF. At the time of the donation, GoPro was worth over 90 dollars, but in the months following, the stock dropped by over 500% to around $18. His 500 million dollar donation, unlike the stock, stayed worth $500 million. There has been no evidence of any significant donation from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation or the $500 million that he donated, so it is likely still sitting there, unregulated and still paying GoPro’s taxes.
